Rich Record Store Day 4/22 Offerings!

here are some "must haves"

This year's RSD offerings are many, varied and of great interest whatever your musical tastes. The lead image shows the Craft offerings that includes the first American mono reissue of "Chet" by Chet Baker, Jonathan Richman's country record "Jonathan Goes Country" from 1990, Travis's "The Invisible Band Live", and others.

Here are some great ones. At the bottom is a link to the Record Store Day listing of all titles. From there you can see how many copies will be available and by clicking on the individual title, get more details, including, for many, who mastered and from what source. Some are all analog cuts by Kevin Gray or Bernie Grundman and many will be major treasures like the Blakey 3 LP live set issued by Gearbox in the U.K. in association with the Blakey estate, the Dirty Projectors/Bjork collaboration (the image of a mountain with no lettering), the reissue of Magnetic Fields' debut, the 5 LP Grateful Dead set featuring Boston Garden May 7, May 8th Ithaca and May 9th in Buffalo, the full score of David Byrne's "The Catherine Wheel" and on and on! This year's RSD is the week after AXPONA, which is great news!

showing up super early for that 1975 record... 2500 copies for the US isn't much. the blur b-sides compilation will be around in plentiful quantities for ages and they weren't a great b-sides band anyway, and i'll probably pass on the dolphy repress since i have the DSD download of that already.

Yes, a true embarrassment of riches. I'm looking for the Ayler box, the Bill Evans "Treasures...", The "Nuggets" box, and Wilco's alternate YHF: "Crosseyed Strangers." Michael: As per tradition I'll send you a photo of the sun coming up over Summit, NJ and will bring an extra chair for you as we do for the prophet Elijah on Passover.

AXPONA this year is the week before RSD so finally I’ll see you in Summit but probably not until after the sun rises!

Is the Dolphy just a re-issue of the previous RSD package?

yes, but with a different cover and cut by kevin gray instead of bernie grundman.

How much of a sound difference are we going to hear ? They can not find any thing else to put out ?

i think the main point is to have copies for people who missed out the first time, but not devalue the first pressing. i'm sure there will be a slight audible difference but nothing insane. those who have the first press cut by bernie grundman probably won't need this second press cut by kevin gray.

A fine selection indeed, but sadly, no classical again.

classical hardly ever sells at physical record shops... they're all filled with classical LPs that no one ever touches so why give the shops more?

sure, but it hardly sells elsewhere. even as vinyl prices go up, classical remains very cheap. shows how little demand there is...

I'm already salivating for the live Art Blakey album, but slightly puzzled since Mr Fremer describes it at a 3 X LP set in the text, yet it is listed as a single LP on the RSD webpage. Anyway, it's my first choice this year, alongside The Residents reissue; I always buy The Residents' RSD releases, so second place for that one. Let's hope that the vast majority of these titles actually show up on the day this year, unlike the huge holes in last April's list, courtesy of 'supply chain issues'.

Yup. One LP. With only five cuts on it, one LP would be right. But the purchase comes with a code for five hours of digital content.
