Neil Young's Essential "On the Beach" 50th Anniversary Reissue Coming AAA November 8th

Cut by Chris Bellman directly from the original master tapes, RTI for N.A., R.I. for R.O.W.

Released in 1974, 50 years ago, Neil's 5th studio album, and the one following Harvest is among his most revered and musically enduring albums. Musicians on the album included Crazy Horse's rhythm section Billy Talbot (bass) and Ralph Molina (drums), along with other key players Ben Keith, Tim Drummond, Levon Helm, Rick Danko, Rusty Kershaw, David Crosby, Graham Nash and George Whitsell (The Rockets).

Sessions were held at Young’s Broken Arrow Ranch in Northern California and Sunset Sound in Hollywood. Young was branching out musically, and heading in new directions. The classic "See the Sky About to Rain" and "Ambulance Blues" are but two of the set's great songs.

Chris Bellman cut lacquers directly from the master tapes. RTI pressed for North America, Record Industry pressed using Bellman cut lacquers for the rest of the world.

The record will be available at music retailers everywhere. All Greedy Hand Store purchases come with free hi-res digital audio downloads from the Xstream Store © at NYA.

Can't wait for this, nonetheless. His recent remasters have been nothing but master tape-like.

I just hope there is going to be more music included, for a 2 or 3 LP release. Archived material, etc.

With no extras, no thanks. I already have an original pressing and the Archives release. No thanks. Cash-in indeed.

Cash in alert. This was reissued 8 years ago - cut by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman's place, pressed at Pallas. So what have they done here except called it the 50th anniversary edition - I can't imagine that it is anything other that a repress, priced 50% higher. Great album, nonetheless.

You beat me to it. The well-mastered 2016 NYA version is still available on Amazon for under $30. Other than some extra text on the cover and clear vinyl, the 50th anniversary edition offers nothing new.

This one is tough to understand. Young has been assembling quality releases for years now, like his Dume take on Zuma. Why not do that here? Surely there are outtakes and alternate versions that could have been added to make a two disk package. I'd advise to take a pass on this, and get the existing 2016 Chris Bellman cut.

Well, the website is called the Greedy Hand, so caveat emptor, I suppose.

This is a new cut pressed at RTI but sure if you already have it…

CB cut or a new one, I hope they’ll use another pressing plant than Pallas. I’ve returned three copies of the reissue because they were all horribly off centre. Makes me nauseous.

This new iteration is under $30 on NYA. I’ll be getting it.

My big question is, will this 50th anniversary edition have the beach umbrella pattern on the inside of the lp jacket? That ommission would be a deal breaker for me.
